Chinese Gardens

In 1844, there was a renowned pleasure park in Hurstpierpoint known as Chinese Gardens, situated on Chinese Road which has since been renamed Western Road. This park boasted various attractions including a lake, donkey rides, a hotel and restaurant (the became The Pierpoint), and other amusements. On Monday the 27th of May 1844, the park’s opening was officially announced in the public newspapers.

Fast forward to the present day, Chinese Gardens-Chinese Takeaway in Hurstpierpoint was inaugurated on Monday the 27th of May 2024. Remarkably, this opening coincides with the exact date, day, and month, 180 years later and within a distance of less than 800 meters from the original park location.

At Chinese Gardens, our mission is to deliver the genuine essence of Chinese culinary delights right in the centre of our neighbourhood.
